Providing opportunities to recycle in rural areas poses many difficulties. Distance from recycling centers, lack of economies of scale, and frequently, lack of community funds are just a few of the obstacles faced by rural recycling.
Southern Idaho Solid Waste's Rural Recycling program is designed to give the residents of small communities in our seven owner-counties the opportunity to recycle some common household items. The program places 3-compartment recycling rolloff bins in small cities where residents can drop off their recyclable cardboard, newspapers, and aluminum and tin cans. These materials are then transported to larger recycling facilities in Twin Falls, where they are processed and sent to recycled product manufacturers.
