Household Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW) are everyday household products that contain chemicals that could be harmful to people, animals, or the environment if they are used, stored, or disposed of improperly. According to the EPA, Americans generate 1.6 million tons of HHW each year. These products require special care when they are disposed of. Southern Idaho Solid Waste provides free disposal of such HHW at each of our locations throughout the region. Materials collected will be recycled if possible, or disposed of in a responsible manner.
The best way to deal with Household Hazardous Waste is to try not to create it in the first place. You can work towards this by using up a product before you buy more, and by finding someone who can use the rest of a product if you have extra. You can also try alternative products that are non-toxic or less-toxic.
For your convenience, Southern Idaho Solid Waste offers FREE disposal of Household Hazardous Wastes in household quantities at each of our locations.
